Market development shows positive trend   

Application consolidation can be carried out sustainably provided that the IT planning and operational processes are given an orientation to flexibility by defining the appropriate general conditions. Commercial solutions for operating existing ­legacy systems quickly and at low cost on the basis of an efficient and modular infrastructure architecture are not yet available at the required level of maturity. However, a look at the market ­players gives rise to positive expectations. The recent publication of a project at the University of California in Santa Barbara for the free creation of own cloud structures (cf. http://eucalyptus.cs.ucsb.edu) raises the hope of an acceleration in market development.   

Until commercial meta-OS infrastructure solutions are realized, the classic concept with monolithic application structures will continue to exist. People have been predicting the end of the IBM mainframe for 20 years – yet these monoliths are still in operation.
